Huish Sixth celebrates great results

 

Huish Sixth celebrates great results with yet another student making it to Oxford University

We are delighted to report that the results from Huish Sixth today show that results in both academic and vocational subjects are amongst the best it has ever achieved. As well as overall success many individuals also achieved exceptionally highly with Grace Horder achieving a place at Oxford University to read English. This follows on from two students who went on to Cambridge University last year and brings the total number of students achieving a place at either Oxford or Cambridge to five in the five years Huish Sixth has been open. We believe this is a great achievement for a Sixth Form of our size.

Overall we have achieved progress for our students which, at the moment pending further appeals, we calculate to be significantly above national expectations and consolidates the great results from last year which also saw Huish Sixth perform significantly beyond national expectations in terms of progress for all students.

There were many outstanding results across a wide range of subjects from many students including:

  • Grace Horder A, A and A in Art, English literature and Mathematics who will be going on to study English Literature at Oxford University
  • Sarah Allen A, A , A and C grades in Art, English Literature, Music and Art who will be going on to study English at Exeter University
  • Adam Evans A, A and B in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics who will be taking a gap year working in the NHS
  • Lucie Francis A, A* and A in Biology, English Language and Spanish who will be taking a gap year
  • Pipa Francis A, B and B grades in Biology, Chemistry and German who will be going on to study German with Business at Warwick University
  • Jacob Girling A, A*, A*A Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics who will also be going to Warwick to study Mathematics
  • Alexi Hampson A*, A* A and B in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computing who will be going on to study Mathematics at Manchester University
  • Pheobe Hutton A, B and A grades in English Literature, History and Psychology who will be going on to Birmingham University to study English
  • Amy Kemp A*, A  and B in Drama, English Literature and Geography who will be going on to study Theatre and Performance Studies at Bristol University
  • Marie Ongouya A, A* and B, in Biology, Psychology, and Art who will be going on to study Clinical Psychology at Exeter University
  • Robert Murray A, A*, A , A*,A in Computing, Mathematics, Further mathematics, Music and Physics who will be going on to study Computer Studies at Warwick University
  • Georgina Stark A, A and B grades in Geography, History and Mathematics who will be going on to study International relations at Exeter University

This year's results once again supports the view that Huish Sixth is able to ensure students get fantastic results across a wide range of subjects from the Arts to Science and Sport through the Languages to Psychology and Sociology.Vocational results were once again exceptionally strong with several students achieving Distinction and Distinction Star. Fantastic results in this area included Oliver Phillips, Toby Pitman, Nathan Sinden, Alex Long, Ross Waterton, Emily Bond, Adam Thompson and Josh Boon who achieved Distinction Stars in either Sport or Public Services who achieved Distinction Star in Sports Studies. Congratulations also to Alistair Lloyds who will be going on to a Higher Apprenticeship with Wessex Water as well as Adam Evans and Samantha Hobbs who have been accepted onto the HCA training programme with Yeovil Hospital.

Practically every subject area achieved a 100% A*-E rate with sixteen subjects including Art, Biology, Drama, Extended Project Qualification, French, IT (BTEC and A Level), Mathematics, Public Services, Sociology, Spanish and Physics achieving 70% or more A*- C grades.

In addition several subjects achieved exceptionally high rates for the percentage of A*-B grades with Further Mathematics, BTEC Sport, English Literature, Health and Social Care and Music all scoring  A*  - B grades with at least 70% of the their students.

The success is spread across a very broad range of subject areas with students going to a wide range of universities across the country.

In addition in Year 12 at AS results were equally successful with some individually outstanding results:

  • Robyn Braddock (three A grades in French, German and Spanish)
  • Angus Crosbie,(two A grades and two B grades in Mathematics, Physics, French and Spanish)
  • Michael Fielden (four A grades in Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics)
  • Rebekah Fisher (two A grades and a B grade in Business Studies, Psychology and Sociology)
  • Matthew Fowler (two A grades and a B grade in Computing, Mathematics and Physics)
  • Bethia Green (two A grades and a B grade in History, Psychology and Geography)
  • Meg Russon (four a grades in Music, Drama, History and Mathematics)
  • James Wright (four A grades in Computing, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics) 

These results bode very well for the continued success of Huish Sixth in 2017!

Principal Andrew Davis commented that,

"It is fantastic to see our students doing so well again at the very highest academic levels nationally and continues Huish Episcopi Academy's outstanding reputation for having high expectations of what each student can achieve and then supporting, challenging and inspiring every student to work hard and achieve their best.

As ever, these results are a tremendous testament to both the students and staff who have all worked exceptionally hard together to achieve such fantastic results.

Once again this year group has been an outstanding mix of individuals who have come together in Huish Sixth to not only achieve exceptionally highly but also to add so much to the life of the Sixth Form as well as the wider school in terms of Art, Music, Drama and Sport. 

Speaking to students it seems clear that they believe Huish Sixth has provided not only a great formal education for the students leaving today in terms of their results but also given them a strong basis in other important skills such as leadership, teamwork and cultural awareness through the wide variety of experiences and extra-curricular activities that they have been offered.

Unfortunately it is impossible to mention every student by name even though we do recognise the huge effort that every student has put into obtaining the best results possible.
