Transition

Huish Sixth

Monday morning, embarrassingly dressed in our slightly alternative school uniforms, we set off on our 'tour bus' (consisting of a questionable four car convoy). Thanks to Take Art's collaboration with Head of Drama, Sam Jones, we - Year 13 drama students/Samsa Theatre Company - had been offered the opportunity to continue the tradition of a three day tour around Somerset primary schools, showcasing a production called 'Transition'. A farcical, comedic and downright silly show, the piece focuses on the transition from primary to secondary school and eradicating the fears younger children may face. In spite of our mildly under-rehearsed silliness, we all strongly believed in the moral of the piece and were warmed at the possibility of helping younger students in the same position that we once were.

Three days, too many miles, a few navigational incidents and five schools later, we have now reluctantly returned to college. Within our drama class we have some students going on to study drama and others going into primary teaching so it was an invaluable experience for us all; we had the opportunity to perform and do what we love, whilst also educating younger children and learning about teaching. All pupils we met were truly excellent, both in watching our show and participating in our communication and character workshop. They showed a really inspiring passion for drama and never failed to impress us with their commitment and focus. Every school we attended gave us a warm welcome and were excited to have been given the opportunity to witness a touring production.

We really must say an enormous thank you to Mr Jones too for inspiring us, allowing us these incredible opportunities and for putting up with us embarrassing him in public for three whole days.

We'd also like to give our enormous thanks to the pupils and staff of:

Selwood Academy, Frome, Thurlbear CofE Primary School, Charlton Mackerel CofE Primary School, Bishops Lydeard CofE Primary School and Trull CofE Primary School

Again, a huge thank you for all the support and we can't wait to get performing again soon!

Sam, Phoebe, Josie, Amy, James and Oliver
