As many of you may have noticed, over the summer holiday we have installed new security measures to reduce the possibility of visitors gaining access to the Academy site during the school day. These include two new security gates outside Huish Sixth and near the Leisure Centre which can only be opened by staff. There are also other gates which will now be locked during the school day and a new extensive CCTV system which was installed over the summer. We believe that this has improved the security of the site for both students and staff and hope that this reassures you that we take the safety of your children very seriously. Further security improvements are also planned over the coming months.
It has also become increasingly apparent that students are arriving on site earlier and earlier, with some children here at or before 8am. This can create an issue since there are no staff available to officially supervise children until 8.45am when staff go out on duty. This also presents a problem since, with the new security measures which have been successfully trialled this half term, we are now intending to keep the school locked until 8.45am.
Clearly I understand that for a small number of families this will present some logistical difficulties, however, currently we do not have the staffing resources available to guarantee that your children will be looked after in a supervised area. Therefore we are currently considering different alternative provision for the period of time between 8am and 8.45am although previously initiatives, such as breakfast clubs, have been poorly attended since many students come to school by bus. We would however re-consider this, or other options, if there is a big enough demand from families to make it worthwhile. Therefore if this is something you may be interested in please get in touch with Mrs Harwood at the school who will collate any responses we receive.
Thank you for your support
